St. Stephan Cathedral in Vienna ウィーン　シュテファン寺院

Finally blue skies have returned to Vienna! A couple of days there was continous cold weather with incessant rain. The usually small and lovely Vienna river (Wienfluß) became a roaring beast. The weather was actually really threatening and even the media called it a “once in a hundred years storm”. Not only Austria was affected but throughout several countries there was severe flooding and subsequent damage. Also in Vienna due to flooding many public transport lines including Subways were not operating. Yesterday finally the weather calmed down and returned to its usual lovely September self. The city center was crowded with happy tourists strolling around.

ウィーンにやっと青空が戻りました！ここ数日、寒くて雨が降る悪いお天気が続いていました。いつもはちょろちょろと流れている可愛いウィーン川が、溢れんばかりで、怒り狂う猛獣のようになっていました。本当に恐ろしいお天気で、メディアでは「100年に一度の悪天候」と報道されています。オーストリアだけでなく、ヨーロッパの他の国にも洪水など甚大な被害をもたらしました。ウィーンも水害の影響を受け、汽車や地下鉄など交通機関が滞ってしまいました。しかし、昨日になってやっと天気が回復し、9月らしい日となりました。ウィーンの中心シュテファン寺院の辺りは、楽しげな観光客に溢れていました。

This is “Haydn Haus”in the 6th district of Vienna, composer Josef Haydns (1732 – 1809) last residence. Now it is a museum. 写真はウィーン6区にある「ハイドンハウス」です。音楽家ヨーゼフ　ハイドン（1732〜1809）最後の住居で、今は彼の記念館になっています。

Close to Haydn Haus there is Sankt Aegyd Church in the 6th district, where Haydn’s funeral was held. ハイドンハウスの直ぐ近くにハイドンのお葬式が行われた聖エギード教会があります（ウィーン6区）。

To the left next to the entrance, there is a commemorative plaque saying that his funeral took place here. 正面入り口左側に、ヨーゼフ　ハイドンのお葬式がこの教会で行われたことが記された碑があります。

After a long Winter, some cherry trees close to my apartment are starting to blossom! For a long time nothing happened and then suddenly it starts. Here in Vienna one has to be careful in order to avoid missing out on beautiful things in Spring. 長い冬でした´が、我が家の近くで桜の花が咲いているのを見つけました！何も起こらない期間が長かったのに、始まるのはあっという間です。ウィーンの春は、気をつけていないとたくさんの素敵なことを逃してしまいます。

It is still cool here in Vienna but some trees are already blossoming. They appear to be dreaming of their time in full bloom. ウィーンはまだ寒い日が続いています。しかし、すでに気の早い花をつけている木もちらほら。春爛漫を夢見て咲いているかのようです。

Giant Schaumrollen decoration at Groissböck. 巨大なシャウムロッレのデコレーション

During a walk I stumbled upon a shop of Groissböck. It is a Viennese bakery chain store. There used to be one located on Mariahilferstrasse in Viennaclose to where I live. This bakery is well known for its “Schaumrolle”. This is a pie exterior filled with egg white merengue. I love this sweets and I often bought it there. Sadly the shop on Mariahilferstrasse is no longer there and ever since I had no opportunity to find another Groissböck shop. Recently however by chance I found one! It is located next to the Underground station “Meidling Hauptstrasse”. I find it curious that I often waited for a bus on the opposite side of the street and I never noticed the existence of a Groissböck shop there. Immediately I got one Schaumrolle with a coffee and how delicious it was! 散歩中、偶然グロイスベックの支店を見つけました。ウィーンにあるお菓子屋さんの一つです。昔はマリアヒルフ通りに支店があり、我が家から近かったので、よくここの名物「シャウムロッレ」を買ったものです。筒状に焼いたパイに、卵白からできた中身が詰まっています。私はこれが大好きなのですが、残念ながらもう随分前にお店は閉まってしまいました。しかし、最近偶然にも「マイドリング　ハウプト通り」の地下鉄の駅に隣接している建物に、グロイスベックの支店を見つけたのです。ここの直ぐ前の通りの向こう側で、よくバスを待っていることがあったのに、存在に全く気がつきませんでした。私は大喜びで店に入り、コーヒーとシャウムロッレを美味しく頂きました！

During a walk I found a fire station in the 6th district of Vienna (Mariahilf). Quite a large and impressive building with beautiful architecture. It was built between 1912 and 1914 in Jugendstil fashion. This is not only for the 6th district but a larger area. 散歩をしていて、ウィーン6区（マリアヒルフ）の消防署を見つけました。大きくて人目につく美しい建物です。1912〜1914年に建てられたそうで、ユーゲントスティール様式です。6区だけでなく、広い範囲の消防を担っているとのことです。

The corner has a fireman statue on display. 角に消防士の像が建っています。

Next to the fire station a park was built. It is called “Fritz-Imhoff-Park” and I spotted beautiful flowers there. 消防署の隣は公園になっていて、花壇に美しい花が咲いていました。
